Themed Tea Rooms
As part of their living in full engagement approach” to Care and Dementia Care in particular, they are rolling out Themed Tea Rooms in many of their Homes.
These are essentially for residents, families and friends to meet in a relaxing old fashioned tea room environment. The aim is for residents to have a really enjoyable day out experience without leaving the home. The Tea Rooms help to make the often difficult experience of visiting a loved one in a care home into a positive one for all, thereby improving and enhancing relationships.
To further improve quality of life for their Residents, a Dignity Committee was formed in 2012 to devise their own internal Dignity Campaign.
The Committee Members are : Linda Zaidi (Director of Care Services), Sarah Sanders (Director of Human Resources), Geoff Pride (Senior Marketing Manager) and Sue Smith (Senior Regional Care Director).
They devised their own Logo – "Dignity is……for everyone, everyday” and all materials are in the same colour of purple. The highly structured Campaign was launched at their Annual Conference in 2012 with Amanda Waring as Guest Speaker.
A special Dignity Tree was created and all delegates were asked to make a Dignity Pledge on a leaf and post it on the tree.
The Campaign is aimed at all grades of staff and will see the introduction and training of three Dignity Champions in every Home, who will be responsible for monitoring, promoting and maintaining dignity in practice.
The Champions will monitor performance through the use of individual Dignity Journals and report to monthly meetings with examples of good practice by individual staff members, plus suggestions as to where improvements can be made. Exceptional performance will be rewarded. Each month will have a different Dignity Focus – i.e Dignity in Social Inclusion, clearly displayed on a specially created free standing purple Dignity Board and performance of selected practices will be audited for effectiveness. The Board will be positioned in a high profile area of the Home.
Finally, each Region will have a Dignity Ambassador at Manager level who will chair quarterly meetings for the Champions. From the monthly reviews of rewarded staff members a quarterly winner for each Home will be identified and further rewarded with a day’s annual leave.
